MIT @ Mullingar Chamber Industrial Committee

Just a quick note to update everyone that Eddie Daly and myself were delighted to represent MIT at a meeting of the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce Industrial Committee last Thursday.

The meeting was attended by senior members from local businesses as well as representatives from Westmeath Co. Council, County Enterprise Board and Enterprise Ireland.

The Committee was delighted to hear that the IT community in Mullingar were ‘self organising’ via MIT Mullingar and happy to support any initiative that will encourage IT careers in the area.

There was also talk of bringing some third level presence to the town and we spoke of the need for IT courses that were cutting edge and relevant.

In addition we have secured commitments from the County Enterprise Board and the Director of Enterprise Ireland (Midlands Region) to present to the MIT group in the near future.

    MIT Mullingar Meetup – September

    Hi all,

The next MIT Mullingar next meetup will be held on Tuesday 30th September at 6.30 pm in the Annebrook house hotel.

I am pleased to announce that Niall Hearn from local IT company Midas has agreed to attend and talk to MIT about current and future plans. Midas currently are in expansion mode and have some open positions in Mullingar. Niall one of the company directors is a natural speaker and has great vision for the company. I’m sure that many of us would be very interested in hearing what he has to say and of course a chance to ask a few questions!

    1. able to attend on the night.

  • MIT Mullingar July meetup

    MIT Mullingar July meetup

May we propose Tuesday 29th of July at 6.30 pm, in the Mullingar Park Hotel (TBC) for the next meetup.

Having some nibbles at the first event (sponsored by Cookieweb) proved very popular, I circulated the idea at the last meeting that we could orgnaise pizzas or finger food for a reasonable price of ~6-7 euros a head.

Please let us know if you can attend the next meetup and if you would be interested in the food option.

FYI MIT Mullingar now has 59 members!

  • MIT Initial meetup

    MIT Initial meetup

    Hi,
I’m quite pleased that our initial reaching out has found so many IT professionals locally. My inital target of 20 members has been well exceeded and with this I think we should begin to arrange our first meetup.

    Agenda:

Initial meet and greet, lets introduce ourselves (30 seconds each), agree what we want to achieve individually and as a group. How often do we want to meet? Do we organise Talks/Presentations formally at each meetup or do we keep it as purely networking? How best to promote IT in the midlands. Linking IT needs with capability.

    Possible Presentation Topics:

    • Apps or Mobile Optimised Site?
    • Latest Cloud developments
    • Going out on your own
    • Dragons Den pitches
    • Open source Pros and Cons
    • SEO from an expert
    • UX from an expert
    • Making Social Media work for you
    • Hosting – What do I need to know?
    • Are robotics the new new thing?

    All suggestions welcome!

And to finish, a humorous reminder of why us IT people need each other! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKorP55Aqvg

  • MIT + New Frontiers

    MIT + New Frontiers

The next MIT meetup will be held on Tuesday 29th Sept 7pm in the Annebrook house hotel.

This should be a pretty short and informal meetup, however, we will have the pleasure of Nick Allen from AIT who would like to chat with us about the “New Frontiers Enterprise Programme” running at AIT.

Please let us know if you are coming along – should be interesting!
