    MIT Mullingar is pleased to announce that Joan Mulvihill, CEO of the Irish Internet Association, will be giving a talk entitled “Tilting the Viewfinder” on Tuesday 25th August in the Annebrook House Hotel at 7pm.

    Joan’s talk will focus on Irelands search for our very own technology giant and how we should expand the opportunity to all sectors – food, health, education and energy.

    Aviva are looking for any disruptive tech idea has an application to the insurance industry. The event is free and there is a 5,000 euro prize to be won for best idea. The primary purpose of the weekend will be for idea owners to try and validate their business model with bonus points if they get some tech built also. A couple of us from Cartell be there in a general mentoring/data supply capacity. Even if you don’t have an idea, why not come along, maybe you can join a newly formed team and get some serious startup experience!

    e-Working Centres Westmeath

    Westmeath County Council under the CEDRA Rural Innovation and Development fund has established six community e-Working centres across the county of Westmeath. The centres will be located in Mullingar, Castlepollard, Rochfortbridge, Delvin, Killucan, and Kinnegad. The towns were chosen to act as strategic hubs within the REDZ framework plan.

    For our next MIT meetup we have been tasked by the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce to see if the MIT group  could make recommendations to streamline the processing of their Shopping Vouchers http://mullingarchamber.ie/buy-vouchers/

    Some members of the Chamber will be present on the night to outline the current process as well as to provide guidance on proposed strawman solutions.

    Not wanting to sound like a job-spec but if you have experience in Architecture, System Design, Coding, Banking, Database, Frontend, Internet, Security, App Development, Cloud, Testing, Hosting, Payments,UX…. etc we want to hear what you have to say!

    Scratch Tutorial by CoderDojo Mullingar

    Next Mullingar meetup is on Tuesday 30th June at a new time of 7pm, Old Reading Room, Annebrook House hotel, Mullingar.

    MIT are delighted to announce that Gerard Keena head of CoderDojo Mullingar will give an introductory class in programming with the Scratch Programming Language.

    The class is geared towards adults that would like to see what ‘programming is all about’ as well as IT professionals that would like to try something new and interesting.

    This class is open to the public and free of charge. All are welcome, especially parents considering sending their children to CoderDojo in future.

    Bring a laptop if you would like to give it a try, this is optional, it’s OK if you just want to watch and learn. Remember, it’s not that difficult, if an eight year old can do it so can you!

    More information on Scratch can be found at https://scratch.mit.edu/, and it can be installed beforehand from https://scratch.mit.edu/scratch2download/.

    The download version runs on most versions of Windows, Mac OS X, Mac OS 10.5 & Older and Linux, but not Tablets. Alternatively we can help you install it on your laptop on the night and take you through it step by step.
